striped tote bag tutorial

FashionArtProjects.com sent me some tote bags a while ago, and I’ve had some fun playing with them. For this one, I made an easy striped bag using some fabric paint and tape. Here’s how:

  1. Iron your tote bag so all the wrinkles and creases are gone.
  2. Put the tape on the bag. I painted both sides of mine so I taped both sides at the same time. I thought it would be fun to have different sized stripes, so I didn’t space the tape on evenly. It’s your choice! Make sure to press the tape down firmly. You can see where I messed up on this on my bag. Oh well. Sometimes the imperfections give things more personality, right?
  3. Using fabric paint and a brush, paint the tote bag where the tape doesn’t cover. Let dry. If you’re painting both sides, flip bag and paint the other side. Let dry again.
  4. Carefully peel off the tape. You’re done!
Now you have an easy and fun new bag! I think mixing colors would look great too! Happy painting!
